2020 F-150 2.7 Ecoboost… 10-Speed Transmission Failing at 80K Miles… $9K to Replace? UNREAL

So my 2020 F-150 2.7 Ecoboost with the 10-speed transmission just hit 80K miles, and now it’s revving between gears. Took it to a shop, and they quoted me $9,000 for a replacement! And from what I’ve heard, the new transmission will just have the same issues down the road.

This is unbelievable. Anyone else dealing with this?

Appreciate it. Nice to know I’m not alone in this nightmare.

Sounds like the bushing in the CDF drum just called it quits.

I’ve heard they made some improvements to the 10-speed after 2022.

Would really love to know if that’s actually true.

Supposedly, any F-150 built after August 16, 2022 got the updated CDF drum in the transmission. That means some late 2022s and all 2023+ models should have the fix.

Take that with a grain of salt, though.

Yeah, they updated the CDF drum, but not sure how much better it actually is long-term.

I don’t work for Ford or rebuild transmissions, but from what I’ve read, they did fix one of the common failure points in 2022.

For what it’s worth, my 2021 F-150 Ecoboost is still shifting fine at 60K miles.

Had the same issue with my 2020 3.5 Ecoboost.

Got the transmission replaced under warranty, drove 500 miles, and then it started banging between 4th-5th and 3rd-4th again.

I’d love to stick with Ford, but these transmissions make it tough. Not sure what to do at this point.

Any transmission made after August 15, 2022 has the updated CDF drum, and so far, they haven’t been failing.

The main control units are hit or miss, though. Honestly, these transmissions are so dirty internally that I’m shocked they aren’t failing even more.

Are you saying you already replaced yours and it’s still doing the same thing?

I spent $8K on a new transmission for my 2018 3.5 Ecoboost a few months ago. The updated CDF drum was in the replacement unit.

I was originally quoted $6K for a rebuild at a local transmission shop, but figured I’d just go with a full replacement.
