2023 Pro or 2024 Flash… what’s the better deal?

Thinking about getting a Lightning. I test drove the new Flash and it was amazing, but I noticed I could get a used 2023 Pro with low mileage for almost half the price.

Besides the bigger battery and slightly more power on the Flash, is there anything I’d miss out on if I go with the Pro?

One thing to think about is how you’ll pay for the Pro. If it’s cash, then you’re good.

But if you’re borrowing, say, at 5% interest, you’d pay around $1,500 in the first year on just interest (it drops each year). Not enough to close the price gap, but worth keeping in mind.

If I go with the Pro, I’d pay cash. But the Flash has 0% APR for 72 months, and I’d definitely use that since it’s worth a couple thousand to me. That does make the price difference smaller.

That’s smart! I usually avoid borrowing too, but 0% for 72 months is a no-brainer. I didn’t have the same options when I bought mine, but it sounds like either choice could work for you.

Where I live (NM), fast chargers are pretty rare. That smaller Pro battery would make long trips harder. If I lived somewhere with more chargers, like back east, I’d probably save the cash and just plan for more stops on trips.

I went with the Flash for the 0%, and I’m really happy I did. No regrets at all.

For me, the Flash won because of things like the extended range battery, adaptive cruise control, 360 camera, 9.6kW Pro Power, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel.

A lot of the Flashes I saw didn’t have the 9.6kW Pro Power, and that was a must-have for me. I just found my perfect truck today—$58.8k with 0% for 72 months, no money down, and all fees included.

@Zuri
Congrats! I thought all 2024 Flash trims came with 9.6kW Pro Power. Either way, enjoy your new truck!

For me, the decision came down to the battery. That 230 miles of range on the Pro can drop to 150-180 depending on driving conditions. If that’s enough for your needs, the Pro’s a great deal unless you really want heated seats and cruise control.

I’ve owned both (2023 Pro SR and 2024 Flash). Loved them both, but the smaller battery on the Pro was a limitation for longer family trips. Also, the Flash’s cloth seats with heaters and better adjustability are way more comfortable for long drives compared to the Pro’s vinyl seats.

I was in a similar spot. I ended up with a used XLT extended range with the 312A, tow tech package, and max trailer tow package for $43k. It had 5,000 miles. My dealer gave me $32k for my paid-off Tesla. I couldn’t justify paying extra just for the big screen, and the first owner already took the depreciation hit. Great deals are out there whether you go new or used. You’ll love this truck no matter what!

If you mostly drive in the city and can charge at home, the Pro’s great. If you have another car for long trips, even better.

The Flash has some nice extras like the big screen and other little features, but are they worth the extra money? Personally, I love my Flash.

I’ve had both (Pro SR and XLT ER). The power difference isn’t huge. The Pro lacks some tech, but you can add a lot back yourself if you’re handy. Check out my YouTube channel for how-tos. If you don’t road trip or tow much, save the money and get the Pro. Try to find one with the tow tech package—it’s super useful and makes upgrades easier.

@Scofield
Can you add OpenPilot with a Comma device to any 2023 Pro, or does it need specific features?

From what I’ve seen, no one’s successfully done it on the Lightning yet.

I upgraded from a Pro to an XLT. The Pro felt like a work truck with vinyl everywhere—not super comfy. You could try adding XLT seat covers from eBay or Marketplace. Another issue was not being able to lower the driver’s seat. I’m 6’2”, and I kept leaning forward to see traffic lights.

I was torn between these two trims but went with the Flash for the 360 camera. Coming from a smaller car, the tech really helps.

Have you test-driven both? For this kind of money, it’s worth trying them out in person.
