3.5 Ecoboost Noise When Accelerating

I hopped on the interstate today in my 2019 3.5 Eco to go somewhere and when I was accelerating I heard a very weird noise and the turbos didn’t kick on, and I was not going any faster. It just sounds like air is blowing out of something. My first thought was the turbos have blown, but after reading around some different forums, it could maybe be the blow-off valve, but I have no idea. I just had my entire coolant system replaced earlier this week, so I don’t know if it stems from when the mechanic was putting everything back together. No check engine light and the truck is running fine without that noise as long as I’m not pressing down on the accelerator. Does anyone have an idea of what could be the problem? Dealership is closed right now.

Your hot or cold side pipes are either loose or popped off… inspect your intake tubes and turbo piping and intercooler connectors.

Had my water pump replaced last June…mechanic forgot to tighten 1 hose clamp and the tube popped off and it sounded exactly like this.

@Denver
Any idea which hose it was?

One of the blue tubes on the bottom…I have a 2015 3.5EB and I just brought it back for them to fix. Luckily, they took care of it the next day for no cost. This was at my local mechanic, not the stealership.

@Denver
I found it. One of the hose clamps wasn’t tightened down all the way. Just saved me 200 bucks for a damn diagnostic fee. Thanks for the help!

Great…glad I could help. But, if the stealership is charging a diag fee for their screw-up, you need to find a local mechanic that you can trust.

Just curious as to what you had done and the cost…mine was a water pump and thermostat with coolant added for around $600 in GB, WI.

@Denver
I had coolant dripping from the radiator when the engine was hot. Took it to the dealer and they said the radiator was cracked and it was also leaking from the water pump and thermostat housing. Dealer cost was about $2,600, but they were charging about $235 an hour for labor, and I had a hard time believing what they were saying. Took it to a local mechanic, and they confirmed what the dealer said and also had the drive belt replaced along with the heater hose. That cost me about $2,400. I’m about 30min south of Atlanta.

That’s how it’s done! Community!

Sounds like a boost leak.
