I have a 2017 F150 that my son will be getting soon. He received subwoofers and a box for Christmas, and we plan to keep the stock radio.
Is the simplest solution to add the FOR11-CK wiring harness with a line output converter to an amplifier? This would keep the stock speakers running directly off the radio while adding the amp and subwoofers.
If I wanted to connect the existing speakers to an amplifier later, would I need to cut into the harness and feed the speaker wires from the amplifier? I appreciate the help. I used to do this years ago, but things have changed since then. lol😊
I recommend tapping into the front speaker outputs on the FOR11-CK harness and running the front left and right channels to a media converter with a DSP, such as the Dayton 408. This setup will give you precise control over the subwoofer’s frequency response, crossover points, and more. It will also prepare you for amplifying the highs in the vehicle later on, as the DSP can separate, EQ, and time delay all the channels.
Some amps can accept direct speaker-level inputs, depending on the amp you choose. If you get a Kicker KEY5001, it would work well, providing 500 watts at 1 ohm, which is perfect for subs.
