Is there a way to set the maximum charging current to a value lower than advertised by the EVSE?
Not currently, but Ford has mentioned it’s coming in the future.

That’s only for 2025 model-year trucks. Those will have new features like ignoring unlock button presses while DC fast charging unless the key fob is close, setting a max AC charge rate, and a global charge target.
Ford hasn’t confirmed if 2022-2024 trucks will get any of those features. Considering they still haven’t added ‘generator mode’ from the 2024 models, I wouldn’t count on it anytime soon.
Nope — Ford EVs will always pull the max power the EVSE advertises, up to what the onboard charger or battery can handle.
If you want to control charging power, you’d need an adjustable EVSE. Most smart wall chargers have app settings for that, and some portable chargers like the J+ Booster2 let you adjust power directly on the device.

Agreed… just wish Ford allowed adjustments on 120v too, so a 30TT plug could be used fully.
That’s something the EVSE would control.
Some let you adjust current, others don’t. The Ford Mobile Charger doesn’t.
My ChargePoint Home Flex lets me adjust the current in the app and set a max charge rate if my breaker can’t handle full power.

Thanks, that’s what I was hoping — I wanted to make adapters for the 14-50 plug and control the amps from the truck. There’s a hotel near a client that has an L6-30 plug for a Schwann ice cream truck. Since there aren’t many L6-30 EVSE options… you get the idea.
Appreciate the help!
@Weston
What EVSE are you using? The Ford Mobile Charger shouldn’t pull more than 27A. With the right plug adapter, you should be fine.
Just be careful — plugging into that outlet without permission could be considered theft.
@Keegan
No worries — the hotel gave me permission. Another place in Jesup, GA even let me install my own 30A plug off their pool panel.
I meant to say L6-20 in my first post, not L6-30. Either way, you answered my question — the amps can’t be adjusted from the truck itself.
@Weston
Got it! If you’re using an L6-20 outlet, you’ll need a different EVSE. I’ve been eyeing the new Battery Tender charger — State of Charge on YouTube reviewed it recently. DeWalt makes one too, but I haven’t seen many reviews on that yet.
