Any good recommendations for custom online tuning? 2014 F150 3.5 Ecoboost

For anyone dealing with the dreaded exhaust manifold rattle, here are the parts I used:

  • 1047621: Screamer Turbochargers for 2013-2016 3.5L EcoBoost F-150 (includes driver & passenger turbos, gaskets, stainless steel studs/bolts).
  • 1043001: Exhaust Manifold Kit for 2011-2016 3.5L EcoBoost F150 (includes manifolds, gaskets, and new studs/bolts).

Boostking Tuning is hands down one of the best. He listens to your power goals and tunes it exactly how you want. Amazing customer service too—worked with me for months troubleshooting issues and dialing in my tune.

I’m running a spicy setup with 21psi bleeding off to 18-19psi, and it still pulls hard at 6k rpm. Walked a few Mustang GTs (not the crazy modded ones, of course).

@Yan
That sounds awesome. If I get tuned now, then later install a small lift and bigger tires (just for ground clearance), can he update the tune? Do tuners typically charge extra for updates like that?

One thing I like about the Banks tuner is that I can just input my tire size and it auto-adjusts my speedo. Also, I’m kinda new to this—what’s the price range for tuning? Flat fee or does it depend on the setup?

@Yan
Yeah, he can update the tune, but you’d have to pay for a revision. Most tuners charge for updates when you add new mods.

The SCT X4 lets you tweak stuff yourself, like tire size (labeled as tire RPMs). It also lets you adjust idle RPM—I set mine to 800 in neutral since I hate how low the 3.5 idles in park.

For pricing, his EcoBoost tune is around $350. Revisions are usually for add-ons you didn’t include in the original tune. His website says ‘zero’ for revisions, but I’d check with him since it might be case-by-case. When I upgraded my HPFP, he retuned it for free, which was cool of him.

I used to run a PRX tune, but after switching to his, I never looked back. Definitely recommend his trans tuning too—it shifts way better.

@Yan
Hell yeah, I’m convinced. When I’m ready, he’s got my business. So I’ll need a device to actually flash the ECU, right? Should I buy one now so I can start logging data, or does he walk newcomers through the process?

@Yan
Yeah, he’s super helpful and will answer all your questions even before you buy. I emailed him and chatted for weeks before pulling the trigger.

I’d recommend the SCT X4—it lets you flash, read/reset ECU codes, do KAM resets, and data log. You can even live-tune with a laptop in the truck and watch logs in real-time.

He customizes tunes more than PRX or Five Star, which are more ‘off-the-shelf’ tunes. Definitely reach out to him, he’ll get you set up right.

@Yan
Hell yeah man, thanks for all the info. He’ll definitely have a new customer by summer.

Slowly but surely! It’s a labor of love :sunglasses::metal:.

You might want to email MPT and see what they say about your setup. But I noticed you didn’t mention fuel pumps—stock ones can only handle so much before fuel pressure drops, and that’s ‘danger to manifold’ territory.

@Joss
That’s a fair point, but since my turbos aren’t a huge upgrade, I didn’t think fuel would be an issue. The Screamer turbos have a 40.5mm compressor wheel, but I couldn’t find exact specs on stock ones. They bolted right up, though.

@Yan
Even with stock turbos, an intercooler and plumbing upgrade can push the fuel system to its limit.

Good to know. Right now, only the turbos and manifolds are aftermarket. Intercooler and plumbing are stock—aside from whatever Banks changed before I bought the truck.

5-Star would be my pick. I didn’t like MPT’s trans tuning—it never felt right no matter how many times they adjusted it.

Paid for 5-Star, sent them my info, got my files back, and it was perfect from the start.

If I had to do it again, I’d go with OZ.

Went with MPT and wasn’t happy at all.
