Anybody try taping over the backup beeper?

I don’t have a Lightning yet, but I’ve seen a lot of people say the backup beeper is way too loud. And apparently, you get an error if you remove it. Has anyone tried just putting tape over it or something to make it quieter instead of removing it?

Edit: Some folks say it’s not that loud, but others think it’s crazy loud.

It’s there so people outside know your car is in reverse, especially since it’s so quiet. It’s not really for you.

Exactly. Why mess with a safety feature? It’s supposed to alert people in places like parking lots. If you take it off or mess with it, that’s just being irresponsible.

I get that, but people are completely removing them because they’re so annoying. Covering it seems like a less drastic option. Also, what’s the deal with the frunk beeper? That’s not even a safety thing.

@Tate
Honestly, I don’t think the reverse beeper is bad. My neighbors’ cars have ones that are way more obnoxious. But yeah, the frunk beeper is kind of overkill.

I barely notice it inside the truck when the windows are closed. It’s meant to be loud outside.

Ford’s beep isn’t that bad. If you think it’s bad, try dealing with Hyundai’s—it’s awful.

I wrapped the frunk beeper in tape and added some rubber pieces. Took a bunch of layers, but now it’s finally down to a normal volume.

I don’t get why people think the beeping is too loud. It’s not any louder than what’s on my wife’s Grand Cherokee or other cars with automatic liftgates.

It’s fine inside the truck, but outside it’s definitely louder for anyone nearby.

Man, I can hear mine echo off houses down the street. It’s so loud I avoid using it early in the morning because I feel bad waking people up. And why does it beep while the hood opens? It’s not like the hood is going to knock someone over.

I opened up the module, poked a needle through the speaker membrane, resealed it, and reinstalled. No more beep and no error codes. There are some good guides for this on Lightning forums. You can also remove the frunk speaker entirely without codes, just seal the connection after.

If you replace the speaker with a resistor, the truck won’t even notice it’s gone.

I got a plug-in that disables the external speaker without throwing codes. It came with a cover to keep dirt out. Plugged it in and forgot about it.

It’s too loud when I’m hunting, but otherwise, it doesn’t bother me.

The reverse alarm is more like a hum, not a beep. If you hate the frunk beeper, just unplug it.

Unplugging it gives you a warning on the dashboard.

Not for the frunk beeper. That one’s fine to unplug. The reverse hum is the one that throws a warning.

I don’t find it loud at all. I’m glad it’s there—it makes the truck safer since it’s so quiet.

That beeper could save someone’s life. Why risk disabling it?
