Has anyone here bought a used Lightning? How’s it been so far? Are there any specific problems or red flags I should watch out for?
I picked up a used ‘22 Lariat fully loaded with every option. It had 16k miles and I got it for $53k in a private sale. The previous owner assured me they took good care of the battery, rarely charged it above 80%, and avoided fast charging most of the time.
Honestly, it’s been perfect for me. Feels like a brand-new truck with no issues so far.
@Tan
Do you know why they decided to sell it?

This sounds a lot like my experience! I bought mine last fall for a bit more, but I’ve put over 30k miles on it and haven’t had any big issues.
I’m in the same boat. I’ve reserved a ‘22 Lariat but waiting for the dealer to retitle it in my state since it came from out of state.
I sold my Tesla Model Y and bought a ‘22 Lariat ER fully loaded for $47k. It had 35k miles when I got it and now it’s at 40k. Bought it from Carvana, and they had it mislabeled as a Standard Range. Once I confirmed the VIN and saw it was an Extended Range, I jumped on it.
Not a single issue so far, and it might be the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Time will tell.
I bought a ‘22 Lariat sight unseen from an out-of-state dealer and had it shipped. It had 9k miles when I got it back in April. I’ve put 22k miles on it now, and besides some recalls or updates, it’s been problem-free. No regrets at all.
Got a ‘23 Lariat with 6k miles on it for a crazy good deal because it was used to haul bricks and had been smoked in. I just got a spray-in bedliner and a professional detail, and it feels as good as new.
I bought a ‘23 Lightning with 600 miles on it that was a lemon buyback for $40k. Got it from a dealer in NY and had it shipped to VT. It’s been great and has actually exceeded my expectations.
I’d say do your research and ask a lot of questions, but it’s been an awesome truck for me so far.
@Dax
What extra steps did you take when buying a lemon buyback? Dealers near me have a bunch of used Lariats, but most are buybacks, and it makes me nervous.

I was nervous too, but I asked for the full story. The dealer said it was returned due to a rain leak in the cab. They inspected it, tested it, and found no issues, so they listed it for sale. They suspected the first owner just wanted to return it for other reasons.
I live 300 miles from the dealership, so I had them send me a detailed video of the truck. I might’ve gotten lucky, but it’s been flawless so far.
@Dax
Good to hear. Enjoy your truck!
Bought a ‘23 Lariat ER from a dealer. Original sticker was $92k, but I got it for $55k. It had 10k miles on it and came with 3 years of BlueCruise. Dealer had already broken it in, and it’s still under factory warranty. Loving it so far!
Prices here in NE are ridiculously high right now.
I bought a ‘23 Lariat with 12k miles for $47.5k. It came with a tonneau cover but no chargers. Would absolutely buy it again.
One tip: Check the average miles per kWh on the truck. I test-drove another one that didn’t feel as solid and was averaging less than 2 miles per kWh.
Bought a ‘22 Lariat with 20,000 km on it. It was a demo used by one of the salesmen, and he loved it.
I’ve had it for a year and a half now and added another 70,000 km. It’s been nearly perfect and is the best vehicle I’ve owned!
Picked up a ‘23 Platinum with 6,000 miles for $63k. It came from a local car collector who sells vehicles regularly and just wanted to try it out. I swapped out the oversized tires for something more standard, and it’s been fantastic.
