I wired in a 14-50R in my garage for $130 including the permit. To be fair, I had the 8/3 and a $50 gift card to Home Depot. So far, the mobile charger has been great. I set it to charge up to 90% between 0000 and 0600 when I get super cheap rates for off-peak hours. I have a 50-mile commute and the truck fully charges during that 6-hour period. The math comes out to about $1 a day for power. Any feedback from others using the same method or reasons to encourage me to invest in a different charger? It’s a 40 amp circuit, so a 32 amp max charger.
Yep, I’ve been using it for almost a year now, even outside. Installed a 50A panel on a post with a boom to hang the connector right above where I park. Just pop the charging port cover, reach up, and plug in.

I’ve been using mine for a few months. I don’t need fast charging and this works fine. Do most owners take it with them in the truck?
Same here. I had no idea this was supposed to be a mobile charger.

Same here. It does come with a wall mount so I thought it stays home.
Absolutely! I enjoy having options.
I’ve used it daily for 16 months on a 50 amp circuit. I drive 100 miles every weekday for work. Most months I get it to 80% overnight. When it’s really cold, I get a bit less. I can catch up on weekends.
Been using the mobile charger from my Mach-E since 2021. Traded the Mach-E in for a Lightning a few months ago. Still using the same charger as my primary. Already had 240 to plug into so there were no installation costs. Just had to change the outlet for about 20 bucks from Home Depot. Using it through the garage door to charge the Lightning outside. Was previously using it outside for the Mach-E. It’s been great. I get about 7 kWh for charging, which is good enough for me!
I use it and have a 100-mile commute 2-3 times a week. Never had any issues!
I used it for about a year and got about 4 kWh out of it, but then it quit working. I got flashing red lights on the charging port when I tried using it. After some research, it seems it was overheating and shutting itself off. I thought it was a problem with the truck at first, but thankfully it wasn’t.
@Blaine
Was that a wiring or hardware issue? I know the manual says a flashing red light indicates either an internal fault or current reaching an unsafe path. Was it replaced under warranty?
@Blaine
I second this. I got mine in November 22 and charged daily at home with the mobile one that comes with the truck. It started flashing red a few times, but finally, it died. I have about 30,000 miles on the truck. It was wired properly — breaker, wire, all sized correctly. I replaced it with Chargepoint home and couldn’t be happier. Faster charging, better cost tracking. Just better all around. Those Ford chargers aren’t meant for permanent use.
I use L2 about four times a week for over 6 months. No issues! I love that I have a plug in the garage; it worked out perfectly.
Yes, I’ve been using it for just under a year. But I mostly work from home.
Yep, mine is permanently installed outside.
I was, but then got an email from my utility company. They had a program to get a discounted Chargepoint installation and a state sales tax refund with the program (plus I could claim that $300 cost on a 30% tax rebate) to get a faster charge. I moved the mobile charger back to the truck next to my Tesla adapter.
Here! It’s been quite reliable. I work from home, so L1 has been enough for me. I use L2 when visiting my parents. Hopefully later this year I’ll build a house with a dedicated hardwired charger, but the mobile charger works well in the meantime!
I’m on my second mobile charger. I drive an e-Transit and plug it in every night (level 2 charging). The first one lasted approximately 18 months. My current (second) mobile charger was given to me by my parents from their Mach-E. It’s still going strong.
I used it for just over a year; it was on its last legs when I finally installed the FCSP. The dealer replaced it without much fuss. The FCSP is a big improvement. We don’t need that faster charging rate every day, but it definitely helps in the winter for back-to-back trips.
