Anyone have tips for rust prevention?

So I got a 2014 F150 back in February, and it’s already picking up some rust. I try to wash and dry it regularly, but it’s still getting worse. Anyone here found a solid way to keep rust under control? Any tips?

Just don’t look under the truck lol

Yeah, or pay someone else to look for you! Then you won’t notice until the wheel arches start to rot.

Exactly why I went with the aluminum truck

Or just the cab corners :joy:

@Lior
Got a ‘free cab corner and rocker delete kit’ on my 2011 haha

Rust is starting in the back, so I bought some wheel well liners. Might get some work done next year too.

@Uma
Long-term, you could either fix it up or just get rid of the bed. Usually, by the time rust shows on the outside, the inside’s been rusting for a while. It’s just how these drain holes work.

I used the passenger running board to grab something out of the back, and my rocker panel literally fell off :sweat_smile:

My wife keeps asking me to put the steps back on my 2012, but I feel like this would happen.

@AlexF150
Mine’s a 2012, too. I put them on because my wife asked, but now my ‘rust shield’ is gone, and we’re expecting a foot of snow tomorrow.

I tried getting her to use a plastic folding step, but no luck.

I got a metal one from Canadian Tire and painted it to match the truck—my wife was NOT happy :joy:

Tried a saltwater solution, but nope…doesn’t prevent rust at all.

Every time I try that, I feel like it just makes it worse.

Fluid Film all the way. Great product and the memes are top-notch.

Only downside…terrible smell.

Surface Shield doesn’t smell and lasts longer between applications.

Went from a 2011 to a 2019 and ended up trading rust for a rough transmission. Should’ve just kept the rust.
