Are Lightnings a target for thieves?

My insurance is saying my truck is at high risk of being stolen.

I thought EVs weren’t that popular. Are they really something thieves go after?

Never had mine stolen. I live in Dallas, owned it for 14 months.

Mine’s been fine too—29 weeks here in Philly.

Wait, does that mean it got stolen 30 weeks ago?

@Jensen
No, I just misspoke. It’s never been stolen, but I bought one of the ‘$39k’ Lightnings directly from Ford.

Seems like 100% of Lightnings in this thread haven’t been stolen.

@Neve
Actually, someone here posted a while back about theirs getting stolen from their driveway.

I’m also in Dallas. Mine’s been safe for 24 months, and I haven’t tried stealing anyone else’s either!

Houston here—no thefts in 31 months for me.

Maybe I joked to your insurance company about stealing your truck.

I’ve been in insurance for 15 years, and it’s usually more about where you live. I had a Ford Edge before my Lightning, and my insurance barely changed.

One thing though—the glass coverage on the Lightning is insanely expensive. It’s probably the rain sensor or something like that.

@Haru
I heard it’s because of the rain sensor in the windshield.

The same windshield is used in ICE F150s with driver-assist features.

Actually, the Flash model doesn’t have a rain sensor.

That might explain it for some models, but my XLT has one for sure. Dealer confirmed.

@Remi
It’s a $40 part, not really integrated. You can find guides online about installing it.

The dealer probably lied to you.

Do you know what the real deal is?

Cars with sensors or cameras in the windshield need recalibration after replacement. That might be driving the higher costs.

@Haru
Never heard this about my other cars, and I haven’t moved.
