But I have the 3” screen… will this prohibit that?

@Shan
Unfortunately if you have the 4.2” screen this won’t work (as far as I know).

Most popular choice then is to pick up these:

iDataLink Dash & Wiring Kit

iDataLink Maestro RR/RR2 Interface module

& make sure the aftermarket head unit you buy is “iDataLink Compatible” which most head units are nowadays.

Look for a head unit that offers Carplay (if you want wireless it’ll cost more).

Crutchfield.com is the perfect place to put your vehicle info in to see what fits. Filter the results based on preferences (CarPlay, iDataLink, etc) even if you don’t order from them it’s helpful. They do include instructions and tech support though.

@Reese
Ehh avoid all that just get a sync three upgrade on eBay.

Does it have android auto capabilities as well?

@Flint
Yes it should.

I’ve heard the USB module isn’t necessary, just an update of the Sync so I’d read up on the forums. I never had an Android.

This requires you update the Sync system from version 1.0 or 1.1 to 2.2 if it hasn’t already been done. Check by selecting General - About - it will list the version you have at the top.

You can update it via a USB at home or ask Ford. I didn’t mention that earlier. For the people wanting Carplay you’ll need this version 2.2 as well.

Do you know if this would work on the 2015 model with the large screen?

@Sage
Yes it will. Just update Sync to version 2.2 (download it to a USB or ask Ford).

Isn’t there an update with just changing the usb port on the console.
I have the same year with the Sony head unit. I added a Rockford Fosgate 10” sub/amp combo. My front doors have a Rockford Fosgate 6x9 3 way running of the head unit amp.

Get a portable CarPlay unit for about $100 and you’ll get a backup camera too. Carpuride seems like a well regarded brand

I have the same wheels on my red 2016. I love the look. What tires are you running?
