Can't Set Target Charge Location... Any Fixes?

I know this has been asked before—yes, I did search—but most of the results are from months or even years ago. I can’t add a charging location in either FordPass or SYNC. It keeps saying I need to complete my first AC charging session before I can add one… even though I’ve charged multiple times.

Some people said a factory reset worked for them, others mentioned resetting charge history helped. A few said a charger module update (recall-related) fixed it, but I don’t have a charger module recall—only powertrain control module and audio control module updates.

None of the posts I found had a clear, guaranteed fix. Is this still a common issue? Has anyone figured out a final, 100% solution?

Thanks!

I had this issue with my ‘24. Nothing from the forums worked, and even Ford’s tech support couldn’t fix it. Then, about two weeks later, I got a notice to bring my truck in for a software update. That finally solved it.

The CSP I received is below—it was sent out in September ‘24. Hope this helps.

FYI, this is the CSP that fixed the problem for me

I actually have that update available. I’ll get it done and see if it fixes things.

I dealt with this for years and got a bunch of unhelpful replies when I first asked about it.

I can’t pinpoint exactly what made mine work. I think it was a software update last fall, but I had also removed and re-added the truck in the FordPass app. At some point, it just started working, though even now, sometimes it won’t preheat in the morning—probably because it didn’t detect the location.

I’d love to know if there’s an actual fix because mine is still a bit hit or miss.

Just throwing out ideas here, but where do you charge? Is it inside a parking structure or a metal building? I wouldn’t be surprised if Ford’s system needs both GPS and an internet connection to save a charge location. Wouldn’t be the first time they overcomplicated something like this.

@Nari
It’s in my garage—nothing fancy, just an old 1940s A-frame. All my devices, including the truck’s nav, have no GPS issues.

Also, my charge history in FordPass correctly shows my home address for past charge sessions, so the truck does know where it is.

@West
How long have you had it? Now that I think about it, mine took about a month before it finally recognized my home as a charging location. That was a year ago, though, so maybe something changed.

Might be worth stopping by the dealer and asking. This is a weird one.

I remember seeing Ford recommend removing the vehicle from FordPass and then re-adding it. Just a heads-up—this will break phone-as-a-key.

After re-adding, plug it in and see if you can add the location.

If that doesn’t work, some people had luck disconnecting the 12V battery (negative terminal) for about 30 minutes (make sure the truck isn’t plugged in). Then reconnect everything and try again.
