Charger install quote… does this seem right?

I got a quote from Qmerit for installing my charger. My panel is in the basement and the garage is on the other side of the house, so there’s a decent distance between them. The quote added $1024 on top of the standard install price — $636 of that is just for 20 feet of wire. The rest is for wire fishing and labor. Does that sound reasonable?

That much for wire? You can grab that at Home Depot for about $100.

Probably closer to $50 if you get it from a supply house.

Doesn’t the standard install cover up to 80 feet of wire?

$636 for 20 feet of wire? What are they running, 750 MCM copper? That’s crazy unless you’re in a huge house or one made of concrete.

Are they patching drywall too since they mentioned fishing the wire?

I’m guessing that price includes conduit too… but yeah, still seems way too high for that distance.

If they’re using conduit, they wouldn’t be doing much fishing anyway. And if they are, the price would probably be even higher.

Only time you really see conduit on a house is going up from the panel and back down to the load, unless you’re in Chicago or something.

Pretty sure the standard install is supposed to cover up to 80 feet of wire…
