As long as the connector stays dry and clean, you’re good. I’ve been running my cable under the garage door for years without a hitch!

Same here – just added a hammer for strain relief where the cable meets the door. Works great!
@Micah
Try a product called ‘Undor’ on Amazon – it’s built for this purpose, and mine’s held up well.

Agreed! I like it too. OP’s setup looks creative, but technically not up to code.
@Micah
I used half a pool noodle under the door – low-tech, but it works!

My wife backed into the garage door once – it’s permanently bent, so I can slide the cable under no problem!
@Finley
Accidentally cut part of my garage’s rubber gasket years back – now it’s the perfect fit for my charging cable.
@Gray
That’s clever! Nice setup.
Why not just put it outside? We’ve had our charger out there for a year without issues.

Wanted something easier to patch if we move – covering a vent and pegboard inside seemed simpler than touching up exterior siding. Plus, in bad weather, I can pull the cable inside and charge.

Outdoor-rated chargers work fine in all weather. Could’ve boxed it outside instead of cutting a wall. Not sure this is up to code either.
Is the charging cable actually wrapped up in a hose reel?

Nope! Just using it to keep the cable tucked away and dry.

Got it – thought that’d be pretty cool. Code-wise, probably iffy, but what amp are you charging at?
@Franklin
80 amps – no issues so far, even in Indiana’s hot summers and cold winters.
Probably not up to code.

Agreed – could be an issue if the cable gets too warm against insulation. But it should be fine as long as you monitor it.
Looks clean. I like it!
