Do you guys ever replace the metal drain plug?

Anyone here replace their metal drain plug, or do you just keep it as is? I’ve been thinking about whether it’s necessary or if it’s just one of those things people tend to ignore.

I swapped mine with a Fumoto drain valve.

Absolutely the way to go. Put mine in over a year ago, and it’s been great.

I have one installed on every vehicle I own now.

I have one but haven’t put it on yet. How long does it usually take to drain? Did you go with the 90-degree fitting or a straight one?

@Stevie
Takes about 5-7 minutes to drain. Honestly, the time saved from dealing with tools and mess is worth it. I just attach a plastic tube, remove the retainer clip, and let it drain directly into an old jug. While it drains, I prep the new filter. Whole process is maybe 15-20 minutes.

@Stevie
I use the straight one with a barb for a 3/8" hose. Drains straight into a bucket, super clean. Takes about 5 minutes for my 3.5 EcoBoost.

What size did you get? I couldn’t find it listed for the 3.5L.

@Luca
I used a Fumoto 107N. Mine’s a 2013, so check if it fits for newer models.

I have a 2012 but looking at upgrading soon :blue_car:

Nice, though the prices on new ones are up there now, even for basic trims!

@Stevie
Only the straight one for me :joy:

Same here. Been using mine for over 10 years and it’s still working perfectly.

Same here, best upgrade if you ask me.

Finally getting one installed this weekend. Used it on my Subaru for a while, so much easier and no mess!

One of the first things I did after getting my F-150 Tremor!

The bolt itself? It’s good forever as long as you don’t damage the threads or round it off.

Thanks. Mine’s still good; I was mainly concerned about the rubber gasket wearing out.

@Asher
Yeah, you might as well replace the rubber one each time. Usually just a dollar or so.

Asked my dealer about this. They said most just stick with the standard plug. Wanted to replace my gasket, but they said I’d have to buy the whole plug for $10.
