I’ve got a 2012 F150 5.0 with the 6R80 6-speed transmission. Once in a while, I get a thump when it shifts from 3rd to 4th gear. It’s super annoying. Anyone else dealing with this?
Have you checked your transmission fluid? When was the last time you did a drain and fill along with replacing the filter? That usually helps smooth out rough shifts.

Fluid level is fine; I checked it yesterday, and it’s spot on. I bought new fluid and a filter, planning to change them soon. I also reset the adaptive transmission tables, which helped for about 20 miles, but now it’s back to hard shifting.
@Chan
How many miles are on the fluid? My 2017 was having rough shifts too, and it improved a lot (like 90%) after doing a drain and fill with a new filter. My truck has 75k miles, but the fluid was pretty dirty and running low when I changed it.
@Merrick
I’m not sure. The truck has 170k miles, and I know the lead frame recall was done before I bought it, but I don’t know exactly when. My guess is the fluid’s been in there for about 50k miles.
