So, I backed up my 2022 F150 Hybrid to my house to load it up after Thanksgiving. It was on about a 20-30 degree incline and had less than 1/4 tank of gas (66 miles remaining). I left it running while loading the bed, and then it died. I got all sorts of error messages like ‘pull over immediately,’ but I couldn’t get it to start again. I tried resetting the system, but no error codes were showing. After a bit of googling, I added 5 gallons of gas, and the truck fired right up. So, don’t be like me—keep your gas topped off when on an incline.
Isn’t this a common issue with most cars? Have you seen the inside of a gas tank or fuel pump?

Not exactly, I’ve got a 2013 F150. I can drive with almost no gas and park on a slight incline, and it still starts. But my wife’s 2022 Explorer struggles to start when it’s below 1/4 tank and parked that way.
Same thing happened with my 2015 F150. Also, there’s a little funnel behind the rear passenger seat that you need if you’re fueling from a jug.

I learned that today… didn’t use it and had some issues.

I guess 2020 models have the same setup. Yup, learned the hard way too.
Haha, I’ve been there before!
Good to know!
Great advice, thanks for sharing!
This is why I usually fill up when it hits half a tank… one less thing to worry about!
Had the same issue with my 2016 F150 during a New Year’s party. Didn’t realize how low the fuel was!
I saw the gauge go down when I did this. Luckily, no diesel issue though!
My dad and I spent 15 minutes trying to restart the lawnmower on a slight hill. Finally realized it was the gas. Filled it up and it started right away. Sometimes you don’t think of these things in the heat of the moment!
My wife’s 2022 Explorer has the same issue, yet my 2013 F150 starts no problem, even on fumes.
I had a similar problem with my 2019 F150 on a 15-degree decline. Had to shift to neutral and roll it out of the driveway to get it started. No issues when parking on a steep driveway, though. I also have the 36-gallon tank. Thanks for posting this—it’s been bugging me for a while.
Had this happen on my 2018 F150 when I first bought it. Now I never let it go below a quarter tank. Really bad design in my opinion. Ford engineers should’ve figured this out by now.
Tell that to all the guys who love running their tanks down to empty and then laugh at you when you tell them it’s bad for the fuel pump
I’ve done the same thing with my F-150 and Mustang. Never let them get that low, but when I did, I couldn’t get them started in the driveway. Had to coast to flat ground and then they started up no problem. Straight to the gas station after that!
Had this happen when I took my 2012 F150 down a boat ramp. I had to call a wrecker after adding a few gallons because it still wouldn’t start. Had to move it to flat ground to get it going again.
Had a similar issue with my 1960 Ford 801 tractor. It died on the side of a hill, and it seems Ford still hasn’t fixed that problem!
