Ford Power Promise

Has anyone had the free Ford charger installed at their home? I’m consider a F150 Lighting (Flash Trim) and want to see if there were any hidden costs involved.

There aren’t “hidden” cost, any additional cost over $2000 to install would be because of how your home is set up. But as long as you have the available in your panel and you garage is less than two standard bus lengths away from your panel you should be fully covered by the power promise. The charger itself is free the money covers permit and install, most if not all that I’ve seen my dealers do have been covered by the money.

Tho I think overall most people are taking the extra grand towards the purchase fwiw

Very helpful. “Two standard bus lengths”… is that something you heard from ford ?

80 ft run from panel to charger.

We ended up taking money instead and bought a Tesla universal for $529 and paid an electrician buddy/neighbor $200 (he didn’t want anything, but it was definitely worth at least that to us) to help my husband install. We know it was done well and it looks perfect. Pocketed $200 bucks difference and I trust what they did way more.

@Jess
It gets better: you get to claim 30% of your costs as a tax credit for next year.

Unlikely, your area needs to meet specific low income restrictions and not be a designated “urban” area by census definitions to claim the credit now. It used to be much easier to

@Harlyn
Ah damn that sucks, and thanks for the heads up. Looks like my area is designated urban amongst a sea of farms lol

@Harlyn
This is so true. All of my friends were able to claim but I live in a small, carved out area and was unable to claim it

@Jess
Nice! I will do this! Is the Tesla universal the same charging speed?

You’ll get 11kW out of either the Ford or the Tesla charger assuming either can pull 48amps through the circuit. I’ve been quite happy with the Tesla charger at home.

Just make sure your installer understands the electrical wire requirements to run as 48 amps. A lot of electricians think 50 amp breaker / 50 amp wire is enough … but it’s not. Need setup for dedicated 60 amp service

The dealerships in nyc act clueless to this smh

Just make sure you insist on the charger and install and don’t take a rebate instead.

We took the rebate but then got 0% financing cus we’re repeat customers so we shouldn’t have.

It worked out cus we got a Chargepoint L2 charger on sale and it looks like install hopefully will only cost a little over 1k plus ability to get annual small rebates from our power company but if I could go back I’d have gotten the power promise deal

I’m getting an install next week (NM) and opted not to use Ford Promise, and instead take the $2K in cash.

In my state there is an up to $500 rebate for the charger itself and up to $1,500 for the install. An estimate that I have puts me maybe $150 out of pocket from these rebates … so a net gain big-time by taking the $2K from Ford.

I’ll let you know in a week or so. Electrician is coming out Monday.

Dont waste ur time. I have 1 at work and 1 at home. Installed the same way with 100amp breakers. Both units will not put out more then 10.4kwh while charging at any point. Have a dozen Ford service tickets opened, and not a single reply.

I installed an emporia in my house for about $700 and that was for the charger and all material
