Ford recalls some 2022-2024 F150 Lightnings due to a battery defect and recommends owners only charge them to 80% until repaired

“Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022-2024 F-150 Lightning battery electric vehicles. A manufacturing defect in the high voltage battery cells may result in an internal short circuit.”

“Owners are advised to only charge their vehicles to a maximum of 80% battery capacity until the repair has been completed. Dealers will inspect and replace the high voltage battery array as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 17, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S18.”

If I had a '22 and Ford was replacing the battery pack for free, problem or not, I’d be pretty excited.

Mine has been at the dealership since Jan 17th with a battery issue. Good luck with this repair!

@Ira
Bro…we in March, WTF? Please tell me they provided a loaner.

Yep. Had a Mach E GT. Dealer has been really good. First module came in bad. Took a few weeks to get another one. Hopefully I’ll have it back tomorrow. But I really think it’s going back with the new recall. I have a low VIN and was built in that time period.

@Ira
I brought my truck in on Monday for some recall work. I got a little nervous when they didn’t give me an estimated time of when it would be ready. The dealer sent me a message yesterday that it still had 7 vehicles in front of it and that he was off today, so I’d be looking at Friday…ended up borrowing a truck from a buddy, probably should have hit them up for a loaner.

Except when it takes months to do it.

My pack got swapped out in 4 days for what it’s worth.

Will echo this, took a little over a month to get my truck back.

Only 950 units affected across 3 model years? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Yeah, I’m trying to figure out how that’s possible as well.

…and this part from that bulletin is also notable:

Estimated percentage with defect: 1%.

So about 10 vehicles are actually defective.

@Noor
950 isn’t the same as 10, I’m sorry to inform you :frowning:

I hope I get it tbh. Brand new battery + free rental Mach E GT rental from the dealer as a “sorry for that” for 2 weeks.

I wonder what metrics they’re going to look at (in FORSCAN or the Ford scanner) to watch for. Or is this just a batch number / VIN based affair.

This appears to be the vehicles affected:

2022 Model Year - March 16, 2022, through October 19, 2022

2023 Model Year - October 20, 2022, through November 20, 2023

2024 Model Year - December 19, 2023, through August 14, 2024

I guess mine is OK - it’s a 2023 XLT SR made 12/23.

@Kiran
How do you find the date for when your Lightning was made?
