In 2024, Ford’s electric vehicle sales hit new highs!
Mustang Mach-E sales hit 51,745 – up by 27%
F-150 Lightning sales reached 33,510 – up by 39%
E-Transit sales reached 12,610 – up by 64%
Ford’s electric vehicle sales reached a new record in Q4, with 30,176 EVs sold. The Mustang Mach-E alone had its best-ever quarter with 16,119 units sold, making it the second-best-selling electric SUV in the US, right after Tesla’s Model Y.
The Ford EV community is growing fast, and it’s great to see more people joining the Lightning club!
Ford sells about 500,000 F150’s a year (they don’t give an exact number, but GM’s figures are similar). That means Lightning sales make up about 6% of total F150 sales. EVs in the US made up 6.8% of sales in May 2024. So, the Lightning’s sales are tracking closely with overall EV sales. For 2025, EVs are expected to reach 10% of the market, so let’s see if Lightning can hit 50,000 units sold.
@Jai
It should be higher, though. If people actually use their trucks, the Lightning seems like the better choice. But then again, if it were that popular, we wouldn’t be seeing such good deals on them right now. Guess that’s a bonus for new buyers!

My F-150 gets 600 miles on a full tank with a 36-gallon tank. It performs better and costs less than a Lightning. If you’re just commuting, you might as well get a smaller car.

What do you mean by ‘performs better’? The Lightning is faster, has more towing power, better load capacity, and is a better off-road vehicle. Have you actually driven a Lightning to compare?

lol are you drag racing your Lightning? What do you really need all that for?
I work in property management, so I often haul appliances, lumber, and other stuff. All my properties are within 30-40 miles, so range isn’t an issue. I charge for free with solar, and the truck is super handy for running equipment without needing extension cords. Plus, I don’t have to stop at gas stations or worry about fluctuating fuel prices.
@Jae
Most people complaining about towing are just driving trucks for the look. Honestly, modern trucks are more about ego than utility for most folks.

I get it. I need a truck about once every couple of months. The Lightning’s great for everyday driving without the guilt of a gas guzzler.
@Jae
I respect that. I do contracting during the day and drive Uber at night. People seem to like the Lightning, but I still prefer my Model Y for the busy nights.

Range is crucial, especially when towing. I can’t waste time charging in the middle of a job. Time is money.
If you’re doing more than 300 miles a day, I get it – EVs can be a hassle. But charging at home while I sleep is amazing. It’s such a relief not to stop at gas stations.

You said your truck costs less than a Lightning? My 2022 XLT Lightning was $57,500 after the tax credit, which is about the same as a similarly equipped F-150. And my Lightning costs me about $0.04 per mile to drive. Your truck, at $0.17 per mile, costs 4x more.

Nice! But does your truck perform better? In some areas, the Lightning is the better choice, especially for people who use their truck every day. Plus, Lightnings are pretty affordable now, and you can get a Flash model with a big battery and impressive specs for under $50k.
