Has anyone else noticed that a 2x4 fits perfectly into the slots on the molded factory bed liners? (And yes, I use my truck for more than just grocery runs.)
Don’t people realize that these slots are meant for this? I have been doing this same thing for 20 years on my 150s.
It must be exactly 20 years because my 2003 truck with the Ford bed liner doesn’t have these slots.
I disagree. My wife’s 2003 truck with a Ford bed liner does have these slots. I made a sturdy gate out of a 2x8 board from Home Depot for around $4.30 five years ago. We used it in Michigan, even hauling about 600 pounds of sand in the back to get better traction in the winter.
I’m really disappointed now. What the heck, Ford?
Not every truck has it; it probably depends on the trim or something like that.
Mine is built into the plastic bed liner.
The rounded body style was phased out in 2004, and that’s when these slots were first introduced. My 2004 SuperCab XLT had them.
My dad’s 2001 Ranger Sport fleet side had them as well. He built a small sliding rack to keep his lunch box, toolbox, and Gatorade cooler from sliding around. I thought he was a genius back then when I was ten years old.
I’ve had mine for years, but I chose to use a 2x6 board instead.
2 inches makes a big difference.
Especially when you realize that the nominal size is 2 inches, but it’s actually only 1.5 inches.
They say to measure twice and cut once, but I usually measure four times and still end up cutting it too short and having to cut again.
Now I have to drive back to the hardware store because I measured three times and cut four times trying to save it, and now there’s not enough material to work with. And this is the fourth time I’ve been to Home Depot today! This always happens!
The condition of your bed liner suggests that you’re not telling the truth about only using it for groceries.
So how do you think I got that single 2x4 home?
Haha, looks like you’re using your truck bed for the first time!
Actually, I bought the truck just to be able to bring the 2x4 home and put it in the truck.
Fair enough. I have done that a few times today too.
I use ratchet dividers from Menards I have got two of them. One is for storage bins, and the other is for my golf clubs and groceries. They are quite easy to adjust and remove if needed.
