Just got my Flash this weekend, and while I love the truck, I’m starting to regret not going for the Lariat. Mostly for the phone-as-a-key feature, cooled seats, and some other small perks. The payment difference was only about $87 a month, which doesn’t seem huge now. Anyway, I’m getting tint and a light bar done tomorrow. Thinking of adding ambient lighting and a leveling kit too—any suggestions?
I don’t know your financial situation, but spending an extra $1,000 a year just for those features doesn’t seem worth it to me. A lot of people run into trouble when they start saying ‘it’s just an extra X a month.’
@Landry
I totally get that. The incentives on the Flash actually lowered my old payment by $387 and my insurance by around $180 a year, so I could have absorbed some of that for the extra features. Oh well, I have to live with it now!
I also went with a Flash and love the physical key fob. The raised lock button design is great—you can feel it without looking, which is handy for opening the front trunk. I get why people like phone-as-a-key, but I already need my house keys, so carrying the fob doesn’t bother me.
@Ellis
You still get the physical key with the Lariat, but you also have the phone-as-a-key option. I use the key during the week since I need it for work, but on weekends when I’m hiking or biking, I rely on the phone feature. It’s one less thing to worry about losing.
@Ellis
If you hate carrying keys, get a code lock for your house. It’s such a good upgrade.
I feel the same way. My biggest regret is not having power mirrors.

Power mirrors are so handy at the car wash. You just press a button, they fold in, and then pop back out at the other end. My old truck didn’t have them, and I had to stick my arm out with an umbrella to adjust the passenger side mirror. Definitely worth it.
I’m loving my Flash! The phone-as-a-key feature from Ford has been buggy for years anyway, so I don’t think you’re missing out too much.

The latest updates have made phone-as-a-key work pretty well for me. I haven’t had to manually enter a password for over two months now.
@Eli
When I was shopping, I didn’t realize the price difference between the Flash and the Lariat was so small. If I had known, I probably would’ve gone for the Lariat. Oh well, at least I can use the savings to lease a cheap EV here in Colorado with all the incentives.
@Blake
Was the price difference that small between the Flash and the extended-range Lariat? Or are you comparing it to the standard-range Lariat?

Aren’t all the 2024 Lariats extended range?
@Blake
I didn’t realize that! But isn’t it hard to find a Lariat with Pro Power Onboard? If you really need that feature, it might make the Flash a better choice.

Pro Power Onboard (9.6kW) used to be standard on the Lariat in 2022 and 2023.
@Freddie
Not anymore.

I’m coming from a Kia EV9, so I got really used to phone-as-a-key and fingerprint unlocking. I’ve already lost my Flash key fob about 20 times in the last few days! Other than that, I’m really enjoying the truck. My next upgrades are tint, a level kit, and a sound system.
@Blake
I get that! I still drive my Tesla and hate carrying keys. I even bought a belt clip for my key, but I’m not a fan. Need to figure out a better way to manage them.
@Blake
What do you do about house and other keys? I’d love to go keyless, but I still need to carry a keyring.

I use key code locks for my home, garage, and shop. The only keys I have are for work properties, and those stay in lockboxes.
