Lifted Lightning... check out the undercarriage pics!

Props to the Ford app for notifying me tire pressure was low, and which tire it was. Immediately saw a screw, got it plugged and snapped a few pics.

There is a ton of wasted space behind the rear wheel wells. Would love to see some additional storage options there.

The entire undercarriage is covered up. Dislike how loose the battery cover is (can wiggle it with pinky finger, so it must flop around while driving).

Pic of the tpms sensor if you were curious like me.

Platinum wheels are 9.5” wide (saw varied specs online)

Stumbled upon an oil filter. One on each motor.

4,714 miles, grabbers kept at recommended 42psi. It is clear inner and outer corners on all 4 tires are wearing faster than the middle. Increased pressure to 45lbs to see if the tires start wearing better.

That wasted wheel well space has bothered me on every truck I’ve owned. It’s even worse with an 8’ bed.

That space would be perfect for a built-in air compressor.

Agreed. There’s gotta be a creative way to use that space.

More batteries? Just need the bigger axles they’re supposedly working on.

You see wasted space, engineers see weight savings.

Anything you put there cuts into your max payload.

@Reagan
Ford engineers didn’t always think so. It’s not like we’re rolling these trucks across the scales and the state trooper makes us leave our wrenches and lunchbox with him until we get unloaded. You’ll try to tell me my overalls need less pockets to save denim next.

What wasted wheel space?

@Lyle
Oh wow!

@Lyle
Looks like there’s enough room for landing gear to retract. :joy:

About oil filters… yeah, but they don’t need regular service since there are no combustion byproducts in the oil.

The ‘battery cover’ isn’t actually a battery cover… are you talking about those plastic panels on the sides? They’re for aerodynamics—there’s nothing under them.

Yes these things…Ugly and flimsy

@Whit
Yeah, I took mine off for the winter. Partly because I was too lazy to put them back on after undercoating my truck, and partly because they just collect snow.

I took this pic because my running board got stuck in the deployed position. Had to knock off the ice buildup on that plastic panel and push the board while hitting the button to get it to fold back in.

You got a pic of what it looks like without that plastic piece?

Wait… they took the tire off the rim just to put a plug in it???

There’s a big difference between a plug and a patch. Plugs are meant to be temporary, while patches can last the life of the tire.

@Orion
But OP did plug it… I was just confused because usually, you don’t need to take the tire off the rim.

And I’ve been using plugs for 20 years—they’re not temporary.

They’re called ‘temporary’ for liability reasons. Basically, they’re permanent, but if it fails, don’t sue us. :joy:
