Manual release not working… what now?

Stuck at an EA fast charger. Plugged in, started charging, and suddenly smoke started coming out from under the hood, right near the plug area.

Ford sent roadside assistance, but they couldn’t get the charger to release. EA dispatched a tech, but it’s been over 3 hours, and they haven’t shown up yet. I tried using the manual release, but no luck. EA rebooted the station, but it didn’t help either.

Any suggestions?

Update: The EA tech finally arrived and managed to disconnect it. Part of the charge port on the truck melted, and one of the two bottom pins is gone. I’ll be staying at a hotel tonight and heading to Ford in the morning.

Have you tried disconnecting through the app?

Yeah, tried that. Still stuck.

Does the truck still power on okay?

There should be a manual release behind the outlet, accessible through the frunk. Did you give that a shot?

Yikes. Let me reach out to someone who works with these systems. Not sure how much help they’ll be, but it’s worth a shot.

Sorry you’re dealing with this. I can’t help, but I’ll follow this thread and hope it gets sorted soon.

If the manual release isn’t working, it’s likely the contacts in the cable handle fused to your truck’s charge port.

Yep, that’s exactly what happened.

Is that was this recent CSP is about?

@Hollis
Actually, let me repost the correct one, from the literature

@Hollis
I reached out to my dealership about this, but they said they wouldn’t do it for free unless it actually happened to me. I don’t want to pay for something that should be free. What do I do?

Call Ford BEV customer service at (800) 392-3673. CSP issues should be handled without any cost to you.

@Harley
They told me it would only be free if the issue actually happened to me, not just because it showed up in the app.

That’s not right at all. CSP fixes are preventative. My dealership took care of mine quickly with no charge.

@Hollis
That’s what I thought. Guess I’ll have to escalate this. Thanks for confirming.

They’re definitely wrong. CSP fixes should always be free. Find a new dealership if yours won’t cooperate.

@Hollis
This sounds exactly like what happened to me.

Ugh, that’s rough. Hopefully Ford will step up and take care of this for you.

Thanks. I’ll make sure to mention all this when I talk to them in the morning.
