My F-150 saved our lives after hitting black ice

Like the title says… hit black ice on I-90 near Spokane tonight. Slid off the road at 60+ mph, crashed through three trees, a barbed wire fence, down an embankment, and even caught 30 feet of air before landing on a service road. Despite all that, my truck is still running. The front bumper is gone, the driver’s door is wrecked, one tire is leaking, and the fenders are shot, but I managed to drive it 45 miles to the nearest town.

My wife and I are mostly okay—ironically, I got hurt checking the damage after I slipped on the ice and hurt my back.

Long story short, this truck is tough as hell. Never thought Ford’s slogan meant much, but my 2021 F-150 proved it tonight.

Forget the truck for a second… glad you and your wife are okay. That’s why insurance exists!

Appreciate it. We’re fine—just shaken up. Honestly, I’m mostly just grateful it wasn’t worse.

@Tate
Glad to hear it. Take it easy for a while—it can hit you later. I’ve been through a bad accident myself and didn’t realize how much it messed with me at first.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll make sure to keep an eye on that.

Honestly, sometimes just knowing you’ve got insurance can take some stress off. Glad you’re safe, though!

I rolled my 2007 F-250 a few years back. Walked away without a scratch. These trucks are lifesavers.

Wow, glad you made it out okay. Definitely thankful we were in my F-150 and not my wife’s tiny car.

I had a similar experience with my old truck. Rolled it twice, and my wife and I walked away. Trucks like this really do keep you safe.

Absolutely agree. I’m convinced this truck protected us.

I used to drive Chevys, but switched to Ford in 2017 after issues with two trucks. Now I’m a fan for life. These F-150s are incredible.

Glad you and your wife are alright!

Thank you. Spending the night in a motel to get the tire sorted, but it could’ve been so much worse.

Weather’s been terrible lately. Were you heading east or west?

Westbound. Passed Medical Lake before hitting the ice. Made it to Ritzville before the tire went flat. Bad night out there.

Ford trucks just don’t quit. I’ve had plenty of used ones, and parts are cheap too.

Drove from Montana to Spokane that night. Hit freezing rain too—bad conditions all around. Glad you’re okay!

Thanks. Ice is no joke. Everyone driving out there needs to stay extra careful.

That’s terrifying. Glad your Ford held up.

Catching 30 feet of air and driving away? That’s crazy for a base model!
