My Lightning won’t charge… any ideas?

Picked up my Lightning last night and tried to charge it at work this morning with the level 1 charger. I’m stuck here for 13 hours, so I was hoping to get some free juice. The truck says it’s plugged in but keeps saying “charging station not detected.” The app also shows “charging error.” Spent an hour messing with it, but no luck. Anyone know what’s going on?

Are you using the official Ford mobile charger?

Did you check if the outlet is actually working?

Have you been able to charge anywhere else?

Had the same problem at work. Turns out I needed a pin from the front office to unlock the power. There was a keypad where I had to punch it in before it would charge.

Yeah, this sounds right. The truck knows it’s plugged in, but your work probably has the outlet locked.

Sounds like the 120V outlet you’re using isn’t live or isn’t grounded properly.

Grab a cheap outlet tester from Lowes or Home Depot and check before you drive yourself crazy troubleshooting.

Also, the Ford mobile charger is garbage. I’d seriously look into getting a different one so you don’t end up stranded.

I haven’t bought one yet, but the Grizzl-E seems like a solid option for the price. They’re a well-known EVSE brand.

My bad, I should’ve been more specific. I’m looking for a mobile charger.

I’ve got a 240V plug at work for the Ford charger and use a level 1 Lectron at home.

Grizzl-E makes a mobile charger too.

Appreciate it! I tried their questionnaire to find the right charger, but that one didn’t show up.

@Blayne
No worries! :+1:

You mean the Ford mobile charger they made me pay $500 for?

Yep, that one. Someone downvoted me, but I don’t care—just search around this forum and you’ll see all the complaints. Main issue is that it randomly stops working and de-rates charging when it gets too hot or cold.

If it won’t charge past 63%, it’s usually a bad battery module. Not great news for a brand-new truck, but you’ll need to take it back to the dealer.

Every time I’ve seen this issue here, that’s been the cause. If you search for other posts about this, you might find more info on how long the repair takes. Sorry this happened.

Does the mobile charger have a red or yellow light? That usually means a bad ground.
