Plasti-dip tailgate … how did it hold up after a year?

I used plasti-dip on the tailgate applique of my truck a year ago, and it’s still holding up. What do you all think of this look?

I always thought that shiny metal part on the Platinum trim looked out of place. This really ties in with the black accents on the truck. Great improvement!

Absolutely! It looks so much better than the original factory design.

Same here. If I had gone for the Platinum, I would’ve swapped the tailgate for a standard one immediately.

It looks great! Do you take it through automatic car washes, or do you hand wash it?

I’d just paint it to match the body color using autoflex. It’ll look cleaner.

Or better yet, order it from the factory without that shiny piece. Problem solved.

I think a matte finish would’ve been a nice contrast, maybe an offset white.

Why do this?

Because that shiny piece is so ugly.

But isn’t the whole point of the tailgate to show off that nice chrome finish?

Edit: Forgot that matte black is trendy now. Guess everyone’s got their own style.

@Rowen
You’re crazy … chrome is awful. It shouldn’t be on any vehicle, especially the way it’s slapped onto these trucks.

Anyone downvoting this has to be over 60 and clinging to the old-school chrome style. The chrome on classic cars looked good … this modern stuff looks cheap.

@Lennon
I’m 31 and I like chrome. All my vehicles have it. I’m just bored of the all-black trend. It’s everywhere.

Exactly. Everyone blacks out their vehicles now. I build custom bikes, and the flat black look just kills what could’ve been a stunning design.

@Rowen
If you’re into building ‘choppers,’ then you’re exactly the kind of person who thinks chrome looks good, lol.

I don’t even get what that means, but sure. I’m 24, and yeah, I like chrome. Not everything needs to be flat black. It’s just personal taste.

@Rowen
Fair enough, but trust me, the chrome doesn’t look as good as you think.

The chrome tailgate plate is so tacky. I’d rather my truck look clean and well-designed.

Chrome can look bad when overdone, sure, but the Platinum/Limited/KR trims pull it off nicely.
