Hey Lightning owners—do y’all actually use the self-parking feature? I have a 2023 ER Lariat but always forget to try it out. The couple of times I did, it didn’t seem to work—screen just kept telling me to keep looking.
Jokes aside, it’s decent—probably an 80% success rate. I had a 2020 F-150, and they made self-park a little more complicated on the newer models. Now, you have to hold the button down the entire time, which is kind of annoying.
It usually does well on the initial maneuver, but I find myself tweaking the final positioning manually.
My wife loves it—I don’t use it. First time she parked with it, I had to get out. I know the computer is probably better than me, but if something goes wrong, I’d rather it be my fault. Just don’t like giving up control.
I looked up how to use it, but every time I go to try it, I forget the steps. So I just park the way I learned as a kid—in a windowless van with only side mirrors.
Had it in my ‘16 Explorer. It’s hit or miss. You have to be going the right speed and distance before activating it. I don’t have the patience for that—especially when I’m circling for parking at Costco on a Saturday!
