Hey everyone, I’m looking at F-150s for my next truck. The Lightning is interesting, but I love the idea of a twin-turbo 4WD truck. I’m wondering how much aftermarket support is out there—things like upgraded turbos, intercoolers, blow-off valves, etc. I’d like to do some upgrades over time, but I’m not sure what’s actually worth it. Do people mod these trucks a lot? Appreciate any input!
Just a heads-up, it’s not AWD. The 4WD Auto mode is useful, but it’s not like Subaru or Audi’s AWD system.
There’s a ton of aftermarket stuff, but most of it won’t actually help. Intakes, throttle body spacers, and “race chips” are mostly a waste of money. Even exhaust setups (especially cat-back) won’t do much. If you’re looking for real gains, a proper tune will make the biggest difference.

Yeah, my bad—I got mixed up looking at too many trucks.

No worries! I leave mine in 4A all the time. It’s not AWD, but honestly, it’s better. It doesn’t kill MPG, and it kicks in exactly when you need it.
If you want to mod it, you’ve got options. Bigger intercooler, cold air intake, upgraded wastegates (like Turbosmart), MSD ignition coils, NGK plugs, a 4" exhaust, high-flow downpipes, and a proper tune (SCT Livewire TS+ with 5 Star Custom Tunes). With that setup, you’re looking at close to 500hp. Some folks say that going from 370hp to 500hp isn’t a huge jump, but you don’t need 2000hp to have fun at the track in a daily driver. Just keep up with oil changes, run 91/93 octane, and keep an eye on your valve covers and vacuum pump.
