I’m thinking of trading my Model Y for a Ford F150. The Tesla’s range is really bad, and I feel like I’m always charging during long trips. Plus, the wait times are frustrating. Is the Ford F150 a good choice for long trips? How often do you guys have to fill up the gas?
The F150 with a 36-gallon tank could get you around 720 miles on a single tank, at least. Just make sure you get the bigger tank, some models come with a smaller one.

Definitely go for the bigger tank. You’ll be glad you did!
I haven’t owned an F150 yet since I need to sell my F100 first, but I would recommend getting the 36-gallon tank. With the standard range, you can get over 600 miles, and if you’re careful, you can even stretch it to 700 miles. Sure, paying for that much gas isn’t fun, but I’d love that kind of range!
@Akira
I get about 750 miles with the 36-gallon tank and my 3.5 EcoBoost. No complaints here.
It costs me about $200 CAD to fill the tank, but I can drive 1,000 km before needing to refuel.
@Qi
I don’t have turbos, but I figure filling up once for $200 is better than four times for $50. In the end, it works out the same.
Get the extended-range tank and an EcoBoost engine. You’ll get close to 700 miles on a highway trip if you drive conservatively.

Thanks, I’ll look into that!
Congrats! I get terrible mileage with my lift and big 35-inch tires. But when they’re stock, you can get 20-25 mpg on the highway!

I get 16.5 mpg on mine with a 6-inch lift and 35s. What are you getting?
@Vail
Wow, what engine do you have? I get 14.5 mpg on mine, with 35s and a leveling kit.

I have a 5.0 engine. Before I tuned it, I was getting 11-12 mpg, but the 5-star tune made a huge difference.
@Vail
What’s your driving style? Do you cruise at 70mph, or are you heavy on the gas? I get around 15 mpg at 80 mph and a bit heavy on the gas with my 3-inch lift and 35s.

I cruise at 72 mph. I don’t know why, but that seems like the sweet spot for my truck. Sometimes I’m heavy on the gas depending on traffic, but my truck’s tune from 5-star makes a big difference.

Lol, I have a stock 2023 5.0 Lariat SuperCrew long bed and get 18 mpg at highway speeds.
@Uma
That sounds about right. Before I added mods to my 2022 2.7, I was getting around 20 mpg on the highway.
The 36-gallon tank is amazing.
My 2011 F150 only has a 26-gallon tank, which isn’t great for 4x4 with the tow package. I average 16.5-17 mpg. I’m thinking about upgrading to the 36-gallon tank.

My 2014 3.5 EcoBoost 4x4 gets 16.5 mpg too. The turbos are pretty thirsty. Definitely get the big tank.
