Took off my AVS Aeroskin after 6 years… not pretty 😬

Oof, that’s rough. Was it only attached in certain areas, or was it supposed to be fully adhered like a decal or tint?

Yeah, it’s definitely not a great outcome.

The install went smoothly, and it never loosened or flew off like I’ve seen happen to others.

It’s held on with pre-attached double-sided tape from AVS, but the adhesive isn’t continuous. There are gaps at the top (2), bottom (4), and one on each side. These gaps help water drain from the hood, but they also let dirt and debris get in, which then gets stuck between the hood and the Aeroskin.

@Kingsley
Mine started peeling up at 100 mph (don’t ask) :sweat_smile:

Paint under it was messed up too… brand new truck, installed exactly as directed. Looks like it’s staying on permanently now lol.

That sucks, but honestly, what did you expect? There’s no way to keep stuff from getting behind it.

If you’re driving a truck a lot and want to avoid chips, paint protection film (PPF) is hands down the best option.

It’s not that expensive if you just cover the areas most prone to damage.

Appreciate you sharing this experience.

PPF?

Paint protection film. Basically, a clear wrap that protects your paint from chips and scratches.

Bought my ‘01 F-250 used and it already had an AVS deflector. Whoever installed it put little cabinet bumpers in six spots on the hood. Still holding up perfectly. Shame yours didn’t.

Could you explain more about where the cabinet bumpers were placed? I just ordered one and this sounds like a solid idea.

Did you take it off on purpose, or did it come off on its own?

I removed it because it had a stain and the finish had dulled over time.

Tried buffing it, but it didn’t help much. Heated it with a hair dryer to take it off, thinking I’d replace it, but then saw the hood was scratched and gouged from all the trapped debris. That changed my plans.

Man, this is disappointing. I was thinking about getting one. Are there any better hood visors out there?

They kinda look outdated… just get PPF.

Yeah, but I liked the look of this one in black smoke. Oh well.

@Cameron
I have that exact one. I really like it, and if the paint gets messed up, whatever—I’ll just throw another one on lol.

Fair point lol.
