Just got my new truck last month and was loving it. Woke up to find out it got sideswiped last night… does this look like it’s totaled? Anyone know how long these repairs usually take?
Man, that sucks. But at least no one got hurt. If it’s totaled, you might get a payout based on MSRP and could buy a new one.

Good point, thanks for the positive spin.

Gap insurance is required where I live, it covers depreciation. Hopefully, you have something similar.
@Reagan
Got something similar with USAA, it’s called Car Replacement. Haven’t even made my second payment yet.

Honestly, you kinda want it to be totaled… you’d come out ahead.
@Ashwin
Make sure the payout is based on MSRP. If not, you can argue and show them examples of others for sale to get more. We got an extra 4k for my wife’s car this way.

I’d be crying for a year if this happened to me.
I’d probably throw up right then and there.
@Reagan
Who requires Gap Insurance? Is it the state or your lender?

I’m wondering the same.
@Reagan
Usually only leasing requires Gap, but some lenders sneak it into the purchase. Hope they total it; you probably won’t want it back after repairs.

Check if any neighbors caught it on their cameras.
@Rin
Luckily, got it all on our Ring camera.

No way it’s totaled. Not even close.

Got hit by a drunk driver in my 2023 Bronco, had almost the same damage. Over $20k in repairs but they didn’t total it.
@Niko
I had a 2019 RAM that got t-boned, bent frame and all, and it just barely got totaled. This doesn’t look anywhere near that.

If it’s an EV, it’s probably totaled. I’ve seen Teslas get written off for minor scratches.

I usually skip Gap Insurance, but with EVs, depreciation is tricky, so I got it for mine.
Crazy how many parts are in the front quarter panel… it’s like a Lego explosion.

I work on headlights and taillights… they’re complex now with LEDs, fans, heat sinks, and all kinds of components. Lots of plastic, and each one costs about $1800.
