What's this inside the shifter compartment?

Pulled off the cover to clean and noticed what looks like a battery casing. Anyone know what this is actually for?

If your truck’s electrical system dies completely, there’s a shifter override in there so they can tow you. The manual explains how to use it.

Worth noting that this is only on older ICE F-150s and maybe the PowerBoost.

The Lightning doesn’t have a dead 12V neutral override button or strap. You need 12V power to put it in neutral.

If you open it up, it’s just access for a bolt to remove the shifter.

Reading is overrated. People would rather ask online instead of looking it up themselves. Thanks, internet, for dumbing down society.

@Reece
Funny you say that—two of my friends were debating whether an actor was in a movie. I told them they could just Google it, and they shrugged and moved on to something else.

Where’s the fun in that? Smartphones killed bar debates. Gotta keep them alive somehow, lol.

“Sad. Many such cases.” - POTUS

@Reece
They don’t give out physical manuals anymore. Mine’s buried in the menu on the screen. Not super helpful if the battery is dead and the screen won’t turn on.

Yeah, I didn’t mean the OP should wait until an emergency to read it. Just saying they could check it out now if they’re curious.

Kinda funny that if the truck is dead, you can’t read the owner’s manual. Maybe it’s in the small booklet that came with mine? Not sure.

Isn’t this also where the MyKey setup is? Like, to configure your phone as a key?

@Kai
Mine was in the cup holder instead.

Ah, you’re right. My bad, I don’t have a MyKey lol.

Are you sure? I checked the owner’s manual, but I didn’t see anything about that. Maybe it’s in the service manual instead?

Flux capacitor.

@Blair
You didn’t get a physical manual with your truck? Mine came with one.

Nope. I have a ‘24 model.

That’s wild. You should download or print one. You’ll need it at some point.

@Blair
It’s online too. Unless your phone is dead too, you should be fine.

Or just check it on a laptop or desktop.
