Who only drives in Sport Mode? 14th Gen

2021 XLT Powerboost

Wondering if anyone just keeps theirs in Sport Mode? For around-town driving, it feels so much better, almost like it was meant to perform. Obviously, it results in worse gas mileage, and if I were doing long commutes, I would definitely keep it in Normal mode.

This is mostly for 14th Gen owners, not sure how the previous gen compares.

I drive my 22 Lariat in Eco mode 99% of the time. But I’m a cheap ass motherfucker.

I do the same when I remember to change the mode.

I wish you could change that in Forscan. Having the option to have it default to a drive mode on startup would be cool.

@Skyler
My wife’s 2020 RAV4 remembers the mode that was last used. That would be nice to have on my truck because I always forget to turn it to eco.

@Skyler
At least they give the option after startup to press ok on the steering wheel, then it stays in the last mode.

Do you notice any fuel economy improvement in Eco? I tried it for a solid week at first and then switched to normal with similar driving habits, and didn’t notice a difference except having easier access to acceleration when I needed it.

@Huxley
If I had to guess, up to 5mpg more average. I can easily get 30mpg on the highway in Eco mode.

Yeah I’ll share a screenshot on a trip reset when I go on the highway again in a few days.

I just put a new post with two pictures I just drove now in the city. 22.3 mpg for a small over a mile drive. But that’s my city average.

God dammit. Guess I need to go back and try harder.

22 Lariat has determined that “cheap ass motherfucker” is a lie. lol

Same for me.

The truck does drive beautifully in Sports mode.

I just get in and drive and never think about anything.

You’ll be the one to get 300k with never any major issues, while the people who constantly think something’s wrong and taking it to the shop are on their 3rd transmission. There’s gotta be a term for auto hypochondria.

@Oak
Nah, I definitely worry but I don’t believe there’s anything I can do differently for the longevity of the truck other than solid maintenance. That and maybe minimal idle time.

@Oak
Yep, same thing as ‘holy shit, my 10R80 has odd shifts from time to time, I have to get it rebuilt’. Nah, just normal 10R80 stuff. Or with the oil-burning 5.0’s—‘omg it’s burning oil, dealer says I need a complete engine replacement’. Nope, I just throw in a quart of Quaker State or some other cheap oil in between changes and she runs like a top. People are too dramatic sometimes.
