I just had my charger put in and wanted to give it a shot. I was at 96% and the rate feels low to me. I keep seeing people mention getting around 10 KW or higher. Is there something wrong with it?
The battery is almost full. Lithium-based batteries don’t charge quickly when they’re nearing the end.

I thought that might be the case, but I panicked a bit since it was just installed. Thanks for confirming!
@Kelley
No problem at all!
I’m not certain, but it seems like when you hit 100%, it balances the battery pack. It might sit at 99% for a while while charging slowly. I can’t speak to whether yours is messed up, but consider driving down to 90% and trying again.
That’s totally normal. You added 10kwh in about 90 minutes, so it charged pretty quickly until it got near the top.
I experienced the same issue after my installation. I flipped the breaker for a bit and when I turned it back on, it started charging around 10kw and has worked fine since.

But your truck is at 99%, no one will get 10kw from a home charger at that point.
@Blair
I trust your knowledge, but I’m not well-informed. Just sharing what worked for me—my truck was at 90% then.

There’s a big difference between 90% and 99%. You won’t see 10+ kW at 99%, it cuts back a lot.
You won’t get high speeds past 80%.

That doesn’t really apply to Level 2 charging. Level 3? Sure, but Level 3 almost always charges faster than your Level 2 charger even over 80%.

This isn’t entirely correct. The FCSP provides full speed until balancing kicks in at 99-100%. From the time on the charger and energy added, it shows that it was charging fast until very recently in the charge.

Is 10kw considered high? Just asking… we’re not counting DC charging here.

It’s a common rate for residential charging.
@Paris
I believe the truck can handle 10k above 80%. It isn’t like we’re talking about 400k DC charging.

It likely was charging faster than 10. But check the battery level—it’s at 99%.
@Derry
True, but many say it throttles down at higher levels. I doubt it’s that close to max.
@Aza
Share your rate at 99%. It’s likely the same as the original poster’s. It really slows down close to full.
This is normal operation.
