Does anyone know why a brand-new truck on a dealer’s lot would already have a couple of thousand miles on it? Should I be worried about this?
It could be a demo vehicle or even a rental. There are lots of reasons this happens. These are usually the ones you can negotiate a better deal on.
I just bought a 2024 STX with 550 miles on it. The dealer told me it was an ‘in-service FCTP vehicle,’ basically a courtesy car. They said it needs at least 500 miles to qualify for that program, but they also gave me a bigger discount because of it.
Some dealers put miles on trucks intentionally. It gets people interested, and then they try to upsell you on something new.
It might’ve been a dealer trade that fell through. Could be nothing to worry about.
Someone at the dealership was probably driving it—maybe running errands or taking it home. You can ask for a discount because of the miles and make sure they’ve done a fresh oil change before you buy it.
