Hey everyone! New Ford owner here with a 2024 F-150 STX 2WD 5.0L Supercrew. Been reading up on trailer weight and towing limits, but I want to be absolutely sure I’m not missing anything. My truck has a 3.73 locking differential and a payload capacity of 1924 lbs. I’ve got the Class 4 hitch and trailer sway control, but no trailer brake controller from the factory (added one with a module kit).
From what I’ve gathered, the max trailer weight is 10,400 lbs with weight distribution if I go over 5000 lbs. Planning to tow a trailer under 5000 lbs, with a tongue weight around 480 lbs.
Would love some input from you all to make sure I’ve got my bases covered here. Thanks in advance!
You should be fine with a 5000 lb trailer. For safety, assume about 13% of the trailer’s weight as tongue weight, so probably closer to 650 lbs. With your 1900+ lbs of payload, you’ll have around 1300 lbs left for passengers and cargo. Just watch the weight balance, and you’re good!
FYI, the ‘53B’ option is kinda standard now. You’ve got the hitch and trailer wiring, but adding the brake controller is easy. It’s not the full towing package they list in guides, though—there are a few extra things in that.
There’s no ‘53B’ anymore. Manuals now give clear tow ratings, and they note which ones need the tow/haul package. Your truck’s limit is 10,400 lbs, but to go higher (like 12,700 lbs), you’d need the tow/haul package.
