I know the common choice is to supercharge a 5.0, but I have noticed On3 offers a twin turbo kit that’s more affordable and stands out from the usual mods. I have a 2013 5.0 4x4 with 120k miles and a tune. I am torn between making my daily driver faster or buying an older Foxbody and modifying it. Cost-wise, both paths might end up similar, though it would be convenient to have just one vehicle. Whichever route I choose, reliability is key.
I’m unsure of the installation cost differences between a supercharger and turbos, but I know that could influence my decision. Another option I’m considering is picking up a 2018+ 3.5 EcoBoost and adding performance upgrades with a tune.
Since this is my daily driver, it’s fun to surprise higher-end stock models by blowing them away off the line, and it would be even more satisfying to frustrate GTs and Challengers with a sleeper truck.
- What’s the general opinion on twin turbos versus a supercharger for a 5.0? Why do people prefer superchargers, and what are the pros and cons of both options?
- Is 120k miles too high to consider forced induction? Should I lean towards a newer 3.5 EcoBoost and upgrade the turbos instead (I’ve always had V8s, so I’m not sure)?
- How do turbo and supercharged 5.0 engines compare in terms of longevity, safety, and maintenance?
I’d love some advice to either convince me to go for it or talk me out of it. lol
