So I just got my first truck, a 2014 XLT SuperCrew 6.5 with 81k miles, and I didn’t realize it has the HDPP and max tow package until after the fact. From what I’ve seen online, these trucks can be rough as daily drivers, more suited for hauling and towing big loads. I do plan to use it for daily commuting, camping, hunting, and the occasional road trip, but not heavy towing or hauling. It’s a bit bumpy, but not uncomfortable. Should I keep it, or sell it since I won’t be using it to its full potential?
That’s a rare find! You could probably sell it for a premium to someone who’s specifically looking for one.
What’s the payload rating on the driver’s door jamb? The sticker should say something like “the combined weight of occupants and cargo cannot exceed XXXX lbs.”
@Joss
Thanks, it says 2220 lbs.

Nice! Most F150 crew cabs are in the 1500-1700 lb range for payload. You’ve got an extra 500-700 lbs, so you can carry more passengers and cargo or handle the weight of a pretty good-sized trailer.
I’d say don’t sell it if it’s working for you. But if you ever do, list it with the HDPP details, and you’ll likely find a buyer quickly.
@Joss
Exactly, mine only has 1,486 lbs and I always wish I had a bit more.

That’s a solid payload for a 1500. My F250 Powerstroke only has 2400 lbs.

The best HDPP setups could handle a bit over 3000 lbs, but that’s with a 2WD regular cab. Most are around 2200-2600.

I was in the same boat. Almost went with a 250 for more payload but stuck with the 150. Funny that it ends up with more payload than some 250s.

My 2018 F250 Lariat has only 2116 lbs. That’s kinda high for an F150!

Why are American trucks rated so low? My tiny 2.8L diesel Hilux has a 2200 lb load rating. It’s way smaller than a 250!
@Keller
Could be how they’re built. American trucks tend to have more features, space, and maybe heavier engines, which can lower payload. Also, they might rate them more conservatively. Even fuel ratings are done differently.

I’m at 1900 with a SuperCab and 4x4. Specifically went with a SC to squeeze out some extra payload.

The heavy-duty drivetrain might be a good fit for what you need. Given its age, maybe invest in new suspension to smooth out the ride. I think you got the better truck even if it feels like the wrong one now.
@Joss
I’m at 2764 with a regular cab, long bed, XLT.

RCLB is the way to go for payload! When I bought mine, I needed room for car seats though…

You could always put the car seats in the truck bed! Lol.
@Sage
Haha, are you single or is your wife just that understanding?

Next truck will definitely be an RCLB Super Duty. Just retired my rusty 2011 Silverado 1500 for a '24 F-150 SuperCab 4x4. Great for mowing jobs but not for heavy towing.
Too many acronyms here! What does HDPP mean?
