Coolant leaking… what’s the fix?

I noticed a light pink fluid leaking from this spot. Could this be a coolant leak? Any advice on what might be causing it and how to fix it? Thanks for your help!

Yeah, super common coolant leak. Check out videos on YouTube about F-150 coolant Y-pipe leaks. You’ll probably just need to replace the O-rings.

That’s a relief. Thanks for letting me know!

@Dara
No problem. Good luck!

I’d suggest upgrading the Y-pipe to the Dorman metal one. Mine failed during a trip, and after that, I replaced the upper and lower hoses and switched to yellow coolant. Better safe than sorry!

This topic needs to be pinned! This question comes up all the time.

Ford revised the Y-pipes recently. I’d stick with OEM Motorcraft parts instead of going aftermarket.

Do you have the part number for the updated Y-pipe?

If you order directly from Ford, they’ll have the updated version in stock. Call your local service center, and they’ll confirm.

Just Google ‘F-150 Y-pipe coolant leak.’ Tons of info out there.

Mine failed during a road trip. The quick-connect on the top hose literally split into two pieces.

Don’t stress, man. This is super common, and it’s an easy fix you can do in your driveway.

Just fixed this exact issue on mine yesterday. It was the top radiator hose O-ring that was leaking. I bought the whole Y-pipe assembly, but the radiator hose O-ring wasn’t included, so I had to buy this O-ring set separately.

You could probably just replace that one O-ring and be fine, but you’ll need to drain some coolant first. If you don’t, it’ll spill everywhere when you disconnect the hose. While you’re at it, you might as well replace the other O-rings, too.

@Jess
Same here! Replaced the O-ring on my 2015 yesterday. Coolant went everywhere in my driveway, but the leak is gone now!

Same thing happened in my garage, lol. Didn’t think to drain the coolant first. I replaced the Y-pipe with a cast metal one and added a 160° thermostat. Funny enough, the one O-ring that was bad wasn’t included in the kit. Oh well, it’s all sorted now. :man_shrugging:

@Jess
Noted! Now I just have to wait for the parts to arrive. Did you drive your truck while waiting or top it off with water?

If possible, replace the part entirely. Mine broke recently, and you’ll want to ensure it’s not brittle or falling apart.

Part number: DR3Z8566B

Yep, common issue. The 90° bend from the overflow is also a weak spot, so keep an eye on that too.
