“From October 15 through November 15, 2024, Ford is offering dealers $1,000 for each 2024 F-150 Lightning they sell from a Replenishment Center. If a dealer sells more than nine (up to 15), the incentive goes up to $1,500 per truck. They can earn up to $22,500 during the month.”

Pretty standard stuff. Not really anything new.
If you want to move product, you give incentives to:
A) the dealer
B) the buyer
C) both
Looks like Ford is doing both here since they’ve also got some cash offers for customers.

It’s news if you’re looking to score a good deal on a Lightning.

The article title is kind of clickbait. Even if the dealer passes on part of the $1,000-$1,500 to the buyer, it’s not a huge discount on a truck that costs $70k+. It helps, but it’s not game-changing.
@Vic
But if you’re the 15th buyer and can offer just a bit less than the dealer’s target, you might snag a bigger discount since the dealer is aiming for that $22,500 total bonus. I’ve seen it happen where incentives make a difference in the final price. Right place, right time kind of deal.
@Fox
15 trucks x $1,500 = $22,500. The 15th buyer might get a deal, but the 16th? Probably not so much.
@Fox
The bonus increases after selling nine trucks, so the 10th buyer could have some extra leverage, especially if it’s near the end of the incentive period.
@Zora
Maybe because Lightning sales haven’t met expectations?

I think it’s more about staying competitive. The Lightnings are selling okay, but Ford wants a bigger market share, especially with the Silverado EV, Ram 1500 REV, Rivian, and Cybertruck entering the scene. Offering discounts helps keep up with the competition.

“Older designs”
It still looks and acts like a truck! No complaints here.

Haha, no offense intended! I just meant that the Lightning isn’t the hot new thing anymore. Some people always want the latest and greatest, and that’s not the Lightning at this point.
No wonder dealers aren’t in a rush to sell a vehicle that hardly needs any maintenance.

I’m at 21k miles and all I’ve done is rotate the tires twice and change the cabin air filter. Maintenance isn’t exactly keeping service shops busy with these trucks!
@Nico
Service shops will have to figure out new services to offer. The times are changing!

Dealerships will probably just lobby politicians to keep things the same as long as possible.
@Tate
For sure. I’m getting a Lightning soon and can’t wait for the next-gen batteries with fast charging and longer range.

If a dealer can’t make money because cars need less maintenance, then maybe it’s time to rethink their business model.
@Kai
It’s like accountants lobbying to keep our complicated tax system intact instead of just letting the government tell us what we owe. Thanks, TurboTax!
@Kai
Dealers are already losing out because people often go to places like Midas or Jiffy Lube instead of dealing with long waits at the dealership. The whole dealership model is outdated.
