HOA wants my Charge Station to blend in… ideas?

So my HOA is telling me I have to either paint my Charging Station Pro or enclose it so it matches their approved color scheme. I know this is ridiculous, but I don’t feel like fighting them right now. I’d rather just build a little enclosure than paint it. Does anyone have suggestions? What would you do?

Yes here’s mine. HOA asked me to paint it. I don’t feel like putting the Ford branding back on it. Scuff it up with sandpaper before painting so the base coat adheres better.

@Niko
Looks decent, but you should’ve written ‘GFY’ on it somewhere. Would’ve been perfect.

Just spray paint it. Building an enclosure could attract things like bees, snakes, or rodents. Not worth the hassle.

Yeah, and it might also cause overheating if it’s fully enclosed.

@Haru
EV chargers don’t generate much heat. They’re mostly just switches that let electricity flow when the car asks for it.

Actually, high-voltage relays can heat up if they’re on for a long time. I’ve worked with them a lot as an electronics tech.

Try running your dryer for 12 hours straight and then tell me about heat. Same idea.

@Weston
Maybe don’t jump into a conversation when you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.

Just tell the HOA to go screw themselves for making dumb rules like this.

Exactly! Many states have laws protecting homeowners and allowing environmentally friendly setups.

This is why I’ll never live in an HOA neighborhood. No way am I letting someone else tell me what to do with my own house.

Why not just vinyl wrap the white part? That way, you can remove it later if you want the original look back.

Build a simple three-sided box painted in the approved color. Add some cleats so you can easily slide it on and off. Then just tell the HOA to buzz off.

Honestly, painting it to match your house and trim might look pretty good. Do you have a picture of where it’s currently installed?

Here’s what I do. The top slides down to keep rain and snow out

I like the vinyl wrap suggestion. It’s reversible, so if you ever want to go back to the original look, it’s easy to remove.

Did you mean ‘vinyl’? Spelling matters. :sweat_smile:

I hid mine behind a bush near the house so the HOA wouldn’t notice. Been a year, and they still haven’t said anything.

Honestly, the best solution is probably moving out of an HOA.

Jokes aside, just pop the cover off and paint it the approved color. The cover snaps off easily. Sand and prime it first, though, since it’s glossy.
