How do you turn off that annoying backup beep and spaceship sound on the power boost without spending $200 on the online harness?

I know there’s a forscan hack for this, but it seems like it’s hit or miss when trying to connect it to a 2023 power boost.

Is there a simple wire I can just cut from the harness that goes to the speaker?

Just spend the $100 on the megaohm delete kit. Takes 10 minutes to install and you can always change it back when you sell it.

@Caden
Yes, that. I have it on my power boost.

It came in. Works as expected. Honestly, I didn’t notice if the UFO sound is gone, but the backup chime not going off is nice.

@Kieran
Nice!

I thought it was $200?

OK, there’s a $200 one that has a remote you can turn on and off. The one above is $50.

Dude above posted it. It’s $50.

@Ira
Just ordered one. I think I found an old link in a forum saying it was $200. $50 is way better.

I just put one on my power boost. Totally worth the $50. I also ordered their fuel door pin. Money well spent.

Without a resistor dongle setup, you will get faults if you disconnect it.

One thing to keep in mind: Starting with the 2022 model year, the ‘Quiet Car’ law (49 CFR 571.141) mandates that all cars driving 18.6 mph or less in EV mode must make a noise that can be heard a certain distance away, as a safety feature for pedestrians, kids, and the blind. If you disable this feature and later hit someone, it could open you up to big legal and financial issues. It’s something I got used to, not a big deal for me.

@Jody
I agree. It’s not the best noise, but I wouldn’t risk paying to stop it and then hitting someone. I’ll deal with the beeping and spaceship sounds. Cheers :beers:

That’s my thought too. As EVs become more common, we’ll all hear these sounds. I only notice it when I’m parked with the windows down. Honestly, I don’t pay attention to the backup sound anymore. I wish I could program it to say ‘HEY, I’M BACKING UP HERE!’

@Jody
Weird, my wife’s 2021 SUV has the same sounds. I’m curious why they added it back then when they didn’t have to. I remember the Prius being completely silent in battery mode.

There’s a lot on cars that automakers don’t have to add. The law was passed in 2018, but automakers had until the 2022 model year to comply. So, the maker of your 2021 probably started adding it earlier. A lot of people don’t mind the sound; it’s actually a good safety feature for big trucks. The backup sound only happens when reversing, which is helpful. Don’t stress about it, it’s not hurting anything.

I made my own using one of the tailgate removal caps that came with the truck, a resistor, and some terminals I bought on Amazon.

It’s been a year, but I found a post on one of the F150 forums with instructions on what to buy to make it.

@Nile
I’m the one who posted it originally on the forum before one guy started selling them in August 2021. I spent about $8 for 5 resistors. I’ve had mine plugged in under the truck for 49k miles and 2 years now.

Unpopular opinion – I think it’s kind of cool and love seeing people’s reactions to it :grin:

The backup beep isn’t too bad. But the fake DeLorean sound is annoying.
