Is there a way to upgrade my tailgate without breaking the bank

I have that pull-out step. Honestly, it’s not worth it. The only time I’ve used it was to show it off to others

I find myself using the step nearly every time I need to get in the bed. I broke my leg pretty bad a few years back and have a toolbox to access. So it really helps

@Devon
I’m in my 20s but have fractured both hips before. I can get in and out without the step, but it’s a challenge. The step makes it way easier, especially with the bar

Also in my 20s. Totally in the same boat haha

I use the step all the time now with my stiff old back

@Morgan
Yeah, I wasn’t using it much until recently, but now it’s a lifesaver for me since I have the SVT Raptor, which sits a bit higher off the ground. I live in the desert too, so rust isn’t a concern
But I think the damper feature is nice. I changed my folding tonneau for a roll-up since it works better

I use mine constantly, and I’m happy with it

I realize I tend to put more stuff inside the truck rather than outside in the bed because getting it back out becomes such a hassle… thanks for your thoughts

@Sage
Get a tailhook! It makes moving items to the back much easier when they slide forward while driving

That step could be very useful for shorter or older people who might struggle getting into the bed

I use mine occasionally… but never with the handle

I utilize mine often. My son uses it to get dressed on

I used the pull-out step a lot on my old truck since I farm. Could just pull the step out and have a bench to take a seat and do my business, since I’m not always near a toilet

A friend of mine has the version with a step. Clever concept but not worth the cost. I’m tall, but I still struggle to reach in. So I keep a simple $20 step stool in the bed

@Sage
I adore the tailgate step on my truck. It was a part of my first truck and quickly became a requirement on my current one when I bought it

@Sage
Consider heading to a junkyard to find the tailgate you want and replace it

@Sage
The tailgate access panel and upper moulding might cost around $220 OEM. You’d need to get the access panel sprayed to match the rest of the truck’s bed. You could save money going used or aftermarket. The step is quite handy if your truck is lifted, but you might not use it as much as you think

You’ve got a dog there, what do you think an upgrade could be besides a dog bed

No way… dogs are priceless

My current truck has a fold-out bed step on one side of the bumper. Honestly, I probably would’ve never thought to buy one, but it’s super handy now that I have it. It might be a good alternative to swapping for the tailgate with the built-in step

How about gluing a dog bed on it
