Your dog might enjoy a piece of carpet
Looks like it’s already had an upgrade
Yes, how about adding a second dog
I’ve only used my tailgate step once. That was just to help people climb into the truck to ride

Maybe as I get older I’ll use it more, but right now I just climb in without it
@Ari
Could be less expensive to look into something aftermarket
I’m not sure you really need to change it, it definitely has someone’s stamp of approval
@Hollis
Didn’t work out this time, it seems
Huracan Fabrication makes an awesome tailgate storage box, puts the otherwise empty space in the tailgate to use. I like mine a lot
Can you swap the standard tailgate for one with a step up? Yes, but you’ll need to find a used assembly or get all the necessary parts from a dealer, and get them painted or bedlined. The last tailgate shell we installed was over $700 just for the part itself
I have an under the bumper step and it functions very well. Costs around $200 to $300. I did look into upgrading my tailgate for one with a built-in step
My father-in-law (84) got one with a step and handle that bolts on the inside of the bed. He thinks it’s the best invention since sliced bread. Reduces usable space on one side, but helps him get in and out of his 3/4 ton Ram
My 2022 doesn’t have that step. I really wish I had it. I’m constantly climbing on the edge of the bumper to get into the bed

A classic method since the fleetside truck became a thing
Hey OP, why not visit a junkyard and find the one you want
How about placing a small bed in the bed
I bought a Billie bar cover for my ’24. They were on sale before Christmas. Now it seems like it’s $400
Billie bars makes a replacement panel. Honestly, I’d rather keep a step stool in my bed than invest in the step because of cost
Is that a golden Irish
Consider getting a ramp so your dog can get in and out without stressing their joints
