What’s different between the F150 Lightning and the Powerboost besides the drivetrain?

Hey everyone, I’m trying to decide between getting a used F150 Powerboost (probably Lariat or maybe Platinum) or a used Lightning ER, likely Lariat as well. I know the drivetrain is different, but I’m more curious about the physical differences between the two.

Here’s what I’ve got so far:

  • Rear suspension is totally different (independent on the Lightning)
  • The wheel arches are smoother on the Lightning
  • Different tail lights, tailgate, frunk, hood, etc.

But I’m wondering about other things:

  • Is the bed the same size as the regular 5.5’ F150? Like, will bed liners, covers, camper shells, and other accessories fit?
  • Can you fit retracting running boards on the Lightning? Is that a good idea?
  • Are there any big accessories that don’t work on the Lightning compared to a regular F150?
  • I’m not planning on it, but could you fit a lightweight snowplow on the Lightning?
  • I read that you can’t do a 5th wheel hitch because of where the motor/controller sits under the bed. Not a big deal for me since I have a regular camper hitch.

Oh, and I saw a review where someone mentioned “ping ponging” torque steer when towing, especially under load or acceleration. Like the wheel pulls left when you accelerate, then corrects, and pulls right. Has anyone else experienced this?

Does the Lightning have a 2WD mode where you can switch to just the rear or front motors?

And for the interior, it seems like the trims are different—like seats, leather, etc.

Also, I noticed there aren’t as many exterior color options on the Lightning, and fewer graphics (which I’m fine with).

I saw some people tinting the light bar with headlight tint, and I think it looks really slick, especially on the darker colors. I’d probably do that too.

You didn’t mention the frunk, which is a huge bonus on the Lightning.

Another thing you didn’t mention is the 15-inch SYNC screen (on Flash and above), but it’s not on every Lightning.

As for the bed, it’s the same. I actually put an aftermarket bed cover for a regular F150 on my Lightning, and it fit just fine.

Most accessories will work across both, but just remember the differences between gas and electric. For example, all the interior accessories will fit, but you have to make sure it’s for the workspace interior version of the F150.

The drive is so much quieter on the Lightning, and you can’t beat that acceleration. If you’re in a place with cheap nighttime charging, the gas savings are huge. I used to spend $600-700 a month, and now it’s only $40 for about 3500 km a month.

Of course, your situation might vary, but the savings can be real.
