What's this metal piece in the truck bed?

Anyone know what this metal piece is for at the top of the picture? It seems to have a purpose, but I couldn’t find anything about it with a quick Google search.

Here’s the info from the manual…

@Kaius
A salesman once told me it’s a bottle opener. They’re actually supposed to be tailgate anchors, but hey, it can open a bottle too!

It can totally be both.

Anything’s a bottle opener if you try hard enough :joy:

Someone here once mentioned they helped design it, and yeah, it’s also meant to open bottles!

Top left in the bed? That’s a bottle opener. Some of the other little slots are meant to hold pencils.

I only have the bottle opener on my ’22 XLT – maybe that’s why I go through so many pencils!

The part that looks like it holds a cellphone? I use mine for that – nice spot for watching a video if I’m following instructions for a project. There’s also a section for holding screws or maybe even a cup, and a bottle opener/tie-down on the side.

I read that it’s intended for holding tablets, phones, and other small tools.

Are you talking about the pencil holder?

Yes, I guess I am! I thought it might have a tougher purpose since they used metal in a plastic part. Thanks for clarifying.

Not sure if that’s what they intended, but it’s a handy pencil spot!

Found a YouTube video where a dealership calls it a phone holder, too. Seems odd to use metal just for that, but I’m sure some Ford engineer had their reasons :joy:

Maybe durability. You could probably use the pencil grooves for drill bits too.

Makes sense for those of us who really put our trucks to work. Durability goes a long way!

How I use it:

  • Phone holder for watching how-to videos
  • Slots for pencils and Sharpies
  • Small square area to hold screws or drill bits while working
  • Also keeps my key fob in place on the tailgate – prevents it from sliding off

Basically, it’s a handy setup for woodworking and general truck projects.

Works great as a beer holder and bottle opener, too!

The clamp anchors can be surprisingly useful. I’ve used them a few times already.

My kid uses it as an iPad stand. I usually keep pencils or my phone in it when working on the tailgate.
